Hi Everyone,
Most of you know that the latest test revealed that Earl has more cancer in his lungs. He will be having surgery on Thursday, Oct 29 at 10:30 am at Health Science Center. The surgery is called a sternotomy and will involve the opening of his sternum to provide access to both lungs. It is a big surgery and the recovery is long, especially because of Earl's need for crutches. He will be off them for about 2 months.
We are also feeling very sad today because another one of our cancer friends has passed on. Billy Jo a lovely 38 year old mother of 2 boys and wife of Steve, lost her battle last Friday. Earl just does not know how to handle it when one of the people we have been supporting and praying for dies.
On a happier note, we just returned from yet another trip to Detroit...I think Earl has earned his Wings...his Red Wings that is. We arrived on Wednesday and attended the morning skate on Thursday, the game with our friend Billy Ritchie on Thursday night, and into the locker room after the game. Then the days that followed took on the same theme....HOCKEY. We also attended a game on Saturday night, after which we said good bye to the team. We did manage a tour of Detroit and a trip to The Ford Museum and church on Sunday. We also had dinner with my cousin's in Windsor. On Monday we headed home, but before we got on the plane we stopped in for a visit at Mt Sinai Hosp in Toronto. Earl was so happy to finally get to go there and not be nervous about surgery. We had a great visit with lots of our friends there and even met a new patient that Earl has already encouraged.
Please keep us in your prayers.....for it is your friendship, support and prayer, that keeps us going.
Debbie
Read Earl's story and be inspired by a very young man, who against all odds became a man who will be remembered for years to come for the way in which he fought his cancer with courage and still managed to encourage others.
His Journey with Cancer
Congratulations to this years NHL Alumni Ace Bailey Award for Courage our man Earl!!!!!
Darby and I (along with 26 others) were there to accept the award for him. It was a grand event, but could never compare to the grandness of Heaven.

Hey buddy, kick some but on Thursday and remember the Wings need your support for their push to meeting the Flames in the Western Conference final in the spring. We are thinking about you knowing its just another part of the journey and how your strength inspires us all!!! Tell you what I will wear my Red Wings jersey (19) on Halloween when the Wings are in town to show my faith in you.
Mike
Thanks Mike,
It really means a lot to me, wish I could be there, but I will be there for the rematch in March. I think I will need a picture to prove you wore your Detroit jersey to the game and not out trick or treating.
Go Red Wings,
Earl
Praying for you, Earl.
Hugs,
Jenn's friend Laura
BTW, I wore my Detroit Jersey taking Claire out on Halloween night and because she was so into it I missed going to the game. Boy did she get a lot of candy. I took a lot of abuse on the street and at a Halloween party after as the Flames had it taken to them by your beloved Wings. Based on your text Saturday night, sounds like you haven't missed a beat. Take care buddy.
Mike
